Most Improved Player Trophies

Most improved player trophies reward the one thing every coach wants to see: a young player who has come on all year. These seven football designs start at 95mm and suit the budget of a grassroots team. Engraving is included in the price, and there is a male and female Zodiac figure if you want a player on top.

7 trophies. Engraving included on all of them.

Why this award matters

Most awards go to the players who were already good. This one goes to whoever moved furthest, which means a player who may never win anything else in their junior career. For a child who has found the season hard, it can be the reason to come back next year. Parents remember it too.

Do not let it look like a consolation prize

The quickest way to spoil this award is to make it the smallest on the table. Give it the same height as your other individual awards, or better still, the same design. If Players' Player is a 170mm Zodiac, a 170mm Zodiac is the right call for Most Improved. Say what changed when you hand it over: the first goal, the nervous defender who now talks all game.

Choosing a design by size and spend

  • Astra Football Boots & Ball: 95mm to 135mm, from £6.25, for younger age groups.
  • Eclipse: 165mm or 185mm, from £6.75, a ball trophy on a plinth.
  • Hex Boot & Ball: 165mm to 250mm, from £6.75, with four finishes at the smallest size.
  • Thunder: 150mm only, from £7.50, with a good-sized 50 x 25mm plate.
  • Zodiac: male or female kicking figure, from 130mm up to 260mm.
  • Allstar Most Improved Player: titled in the design, at 145mm or 185mm.

Most improved plate wording

Stick to the facts here, as the coach's words on the night do the rest. One slash marks each line ending:

  • Most Improved Player / Evie Lane / 2026-27
  • Most Improved / Alfie Dunn / U10 Blues
  • Most Improved Defender / Rhys Pope
  • Most Improved Player / Year 7 / Mia Ford

Other sports and other ages

These trophies are football designs, but the award works everywhere. Pick any trophy from your sport, for example netball or swimming, and put Most Improved on the plate. Teachers can do the same with our school trophies, as the idea applies just as well to spelling. See football trophies by age group for sizes, or add the award to a bigger order using junior football trophies.

Most Improved Player Trophies: your questions

How do you choose a Most Improved Player?
Compare each player with where they were at the start of the season, not with the rest of the squad. It often goes to someone who has grown in confidence, attitude or skill, and not to your best player.
Should it be the same size as the other trophies?
Yes, if you can. Giving it the same height as the other individual awards shows that it counts. Making it the smallest on the table can turn a compliment into a consolation prize.
What is the cheapest Most Improved trophy?
The Astra Football Boots & Ball Trophy at 95mm costs £6.25 with engraving included. The Hex Boot & Ball and the Eclipse start at £6.75, both at 165mm, so they give more height for a little more.
Is the wording already on the trophy?
On the Allstar Most Improved Player, yes, as the title is part of the design. On the other six, you add Most Improved Player to the plate. Engraving is included either way.
